Can I wear my hoodie?..please and thank you

Trayvon! Trayvon! Zimmerman! Zimmerman! I'm sure most of you are familiar with these names which have come up in recent news. One that makes your stomach churn... If you want to know more about the story you can read the links below and also check your daily news. Stay Informed and Be Informed about what's going on around you...Knowledge as they say is power.

Injustice. Racism. Self Defense...and the list goes on. There is so much been said and to be said and done. But one thing amongst all that bothers me about this, is the case of security and trust in our policemen/watchmen.

This makes me ask myself? Can my brothers walk the streets, go out to walk a friend or go to the store with their hoodie on and be safe? I'm sure it makes parents ask that question too. Obama recently made a comment "If I had a son, he'd look like Trayvon". It's spring but it's also quite chilly in spring. Yesterday I wore a light Jacket and oh boyy was I hit by the cold wind in Manhattan. We are still and always will have people wearing hoodies but should we now walk around with the fear that If I wear a hoodie and I'm colored, there is the possibility that I will be considered a threat to the security of a neighborhood and might be shot if I make a slight move? Now I am not saying that these are exactly what transpired between Zimmerman and Trayvon but such a tragic event makes you ask these questions.

As people of color, we are faced with the pain of everyday racial profiling. After many years of fighting against segregation, today we still have some people who see a young colored man, and immediately hide their purse. Yes you know that still happens. We even have colored people in schools, who make it to college and graduate and have good jobs but are still looked down upon or questioned how they were able to make it through college. Let me tell you a secret....'people of color are also smart, intelligent and educated'. We as a country and as a people have come too far to still have colored people be readily labelled as "people of crime".

Teenagers are teenagers, they will also do silly things like get in a fight but if and when they do..will someone shoot them simply because they got in a fight? Fighting is wrong but will a security officer calmly resolve it rather than shoot?

I want to be home or at work or out anywhere and know that my brothers are safe out there? I want to know that I can trust that my brothers, boyfriend, male cousins, nephews and male friends.. ..are safe out there! Security laws, security officers are there to make us feel safe but now can we feel safe? do we feel safe? are we safe?

I have a jacket on this very moment and guess what? It has a hoodie...

A lesson from my sis

I have an Amazing Big Sister who is married to an Amazing Man...my brother in law. Sorry can't give names or too much info.....Anyways what I want to say is....Many people don't believe in love. don't believe in marriage, don't believe in relationships especially with the high divorce rate today....But I wish you could see my sister and her hubby...trust me, you will change your mind about love, marriage, relationships.

I have learned quite some things from them and I want you to know too. A couple that prays together, stays together. Pray each day with your partner. Share your thoughts, ideas and plans with your partner. Let your partner not just be your husband or wife but your friend.

I have a lot more I have learned from them but I'll like to know what you think are some ingredients to a healthy loving relationship (and yes I know there will be arguments, disagreements...and all that down and lows...I disagree with my siblings and friends sometimes but we still have a healthy loving relationship). For those who have fallen out of their marriages, how can they get it restored? I do believe people can make it back together and make it work.. What do we need to do to sustain our relationships, marriages today...We need more marriages like 'those days' not today where most people get in and out like they are hoping on a train in New York...hop in, hop out.

P.S I wish you all in a relationship and/or marriage....a Happy & Blessed one!!

Much Love

Walking this path......

The Bible says 'teach your child in the right path and when he is older he will not depart from it' Prov 22:6. I am proud to say my mother always taught us the right path. When I was younger I was always involved in the church even without being told or asked to. I was in the choir, took believers class, I started the teenage bulletin...and a couple other things I got involved in. This bulletin had a weekly bible scripture and passage, puzzles, the hymn to be sang during the service, menu of the week. I took the responsibility upon myself to ensure that that everything for the bulletin was put together and copies were printed out and folded before Sunday service. I loved doing it. Oooooo what I loved doing the most was preaching in teenage church and also as a teenager standing on the pulpit in adult church during Children/Teenage week and saying the prayer or introducing the next agenda for the day...O those days!!... Now Yes My Mom taught me in the right path but even though we are Christians, we are also human..I've fallen sometimes along the way....BUT because of the teaching as a child, I always still find my way back. I never really depart from it. Maybe take a few steps away..lol!

As Christians, we need to have other bros and sis in the Lord to help us find our way back when we go astray. I remember sometime...I think about 2 years ago, a particular friend and I would each text each other a bible passage and we both read and then text each other what we understood from the reading. Today I have a friend who daily sends me daily devotions...You can read some at http://www.rccgna.org/openheavens/. And my mother? She has never stopped. I enjoy our weekly prayers.

Do you have people around you that will guide you rather than judge you when you take the wrong turn, go astray, backslide? One of Donnie McClurkin's songs says "We fall down but we get up' We can't walk this path of righteousness alone...especially in a world filled with many temptations. We need God to give us strength, we need others to help us up when we fall...Do you have such people in your lives?

BTW if you wondering what church I've been talking about this whole time, it is The Redeemed Christian Church of God.

Stay Blessed!

Hello world!

This was postesd on the old site but just decided to still keep it here on the new site.

Sunday, March 24th 9:55pm...Officially my first post!! YAY!!!

I'm Lola Osun. I'm not too old and not too young...lol! .

You are probably wondering...'what is she blogging about' well. I asked myself that question weeks ago when the idea to blog first came to mind. I am not a celebrity so you are not going to read about my million dollar mansions, my next new album...you won' t get the latest gossip about like what what Beyonce did today or yesterday.

So exactly what am I going to write? Hmmm I'm writing about anything and everything...the issues that affect lil ol me and you..in our everyday simple or complicated lives. Oh by the way the category for this is 'Everything and Anything'

I am a christian, and as such I am expected to spread his word. NO! I AM NOT HERE TO JUDGE ANYONE ..but as Christians we should share his word, be strong for others when they fall or backslide...THAT SAID! I have a category called 'It's a Life for Christ' where myself and other believers get to share his word and help each other continue the walk of righteousness.

I'm not a Fashionista, neither am I obsessed with fashion but I can say a thing or two right? So don't be surprised if you see one or two or three or more posts that are fashion related. You know we all want to look good. LOL!! I titled that category 'Beautiful Me....Handsome...You'

We all have questions we are seeking answers too. We have our own opinions on different issues. Our own ideas. So feel free to comment, share your own opinion(s), share your own ideas....No one is perfect! We can all learn from one another. And please let's be respectful of one another's comments.

Thanks :)
